Adjamée to Bolinas, Cap d’Ail (Riviera Marriott Hotel)

The Scope of Work: Before starting the project, I reviewed the initial brief developed by the Riviera Marriott Hotel and the Farago team. Our mission was to refine the decor of Bolinas in order to give this Mediterranean-inspired restaurant a distinct identity that stood apart from the rest of the hotel complex. Since the large furniture pieces (tables, chairs, sofas, etc.) were already in place, we needed to add decorative touches to both the interior and exterior that would remain in keeping with the spirit of Bolinas and the menu curated by Farago. We therefore decided to make greenery one of the central themes of our design. Plants on the ceiling, walls, and even on the terrace were used to create a deeply immersive experience, almost giving guests the impression that they were strolling through a lush forest. We also prioritized natural materials and artisanal craftsmanship.
Step 1: We started by decorating the bar, the centerpiece of Bolinas. Since the space needed to remain fairly functional, we had to avoid overloading it. So we decided to add greenery to the ceiling to give it a sense of lightness. We added string lights along the pillars to provide more lighting and installed shelves to showcase the ELY cocktails, the brand’s true signature.
Step 2: Since the lounge area already had sofas and coffee tables, we added Adjamée cushions, “jungle” wallpaper from Officinarkitettura, and a collection of Panama hats to evoke a sense of escape and the Mediterranean.
Step 3: In the restaurant area, we arranged colorful Pols Potten plants to add a fun and quirky touch to the space. Here, too, since it was difficult to add decorative elements to the floor—which was already crowded—we chose to focus on the ceiling and walls instead, incorporating plant arrangements from Les Naturistes and LRNCE mirrors made in Morocco, in keeping with the travel-inspired theme.
Step 4: Finally , we set about redesigning the outdoor area—specifically, a terrace and a pool—which are accessible only to hotel guests. To make the space feel cozier and more modern, we reupholstered the benches with fabric and then arranged a host of cushions on them. Seeking to make the terrace visually appealing from the harbor while preserving the privacy of hotel guests, we also made extensive use of greenery, placing numerous plants, including massive banana trees. To stay true to the “escape” theme, we had fun adding a woven wrought-iron rhinoceros to the bar, straw pendant lights, bamboo tables, and plenty of rugs. Finally, we accented the entire space with string lights for a soft, subdued effect.
